Go to the emergency room or call your doctor immediately if you experience severe ear pain, especially if accompanied by a high fever (over 101°F or 38.3°C) or signs of dehydration (decreased urination, dry mouth).
Seek immediate care if you notice dizziness or balance problems, since these could indicate a more serious inner ear infection. Pus or bloody discharge from the ear also requires urgent medical attention.
Similarly, if you experience worsening symptoms despite taking doxycycline, contact your doctor or seek immediate medical care. This includes increased pain, swelling around the ear, or spreading infection symptoms.
If you have a weakened immune system, even mild symptoms warrant a call to your doctor or urgent care. They can monitor your condition closely and ensure you get the appropriate treatment.
Children with ear infections should be monitored closely for signs of dehydration and high fever. Contact your pediatrician or go to urgent care if you have concerns about your child’s condition.
