Using Your Proventil HFA Inhaler
Before your first use, prime the inhaler by releasing a test spray away from your face. Hold the inhaler upright. Breathe out completely. Place the mouthpiece between your teeth and close your lips around it. Inhale slowly and deeply as you press down on the inhaler, releasing one dose. Hold your breath for 10 seconds before slowly exhaling. If your doctor prescribed two inhalations, repeat the process after waiting about 1 minute.
Clean your inhaler regularly by wiping the mouthpiece with a dry cloth. Rinse the canister with lukewarm water. If the canister feels heavy or cold, it might be empty. Proper storage in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight will maintain its potency. Always check the expiration date on the canister.
