- Timing Matters: Test at the same time each day, ideally mid-afternoon. LH surges can vary, and missing the peak can lead to false negatives or positives if testing too early or too late. Hydration Levels: Excessive fluid intake can dilute urine, potentially leading to a falsely negative or less-defined positive result. Maintain consistent hydration. Medication Influence: Clomid, and other fertility drugs, can affect LH levels, causing inaccurate readings. Discuss results with your doctor. Some medications may delay or advance ovulation. Hormonal Imbalances: Underlying hormonal conditions like PCOS or thyroid issues can affect LH patterns, influencing OPK accuracy. Consult your doctor for diagnosis and management. Test Sensitivity: OPK sensitivity varies between brands. Higher sensitivity may yield more frequent faint positives that aren’t true surges.
For accurate results:
Follow package instructions carefully. Test for several days, beginning before your anticipated LH surge. Combine OPK testing with basal body temperature charting (BBT) to confirm ovulation. Track cervical mucus changes – fertile mucus is clear, stretchy and abundant. Consult your physician to interpret results, especially when using fertility medications.
