Contact your pediatrician immediately if your one-year-old experiences a severe allergic reaction, indicated by difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, hives, or rash. Also, call if you notice persistent diarrhea, vomiting lasting more than a few hours, or significant changes in urination or bowel movements. These symptoms require prompt medical attention.
Less Severe, But Still Concerning Symptoms
While less urgent, report these symptoms to your doctor: skin rash (not accompanied by severe allergic reaction symptoms), unusual irritability or fussiness beyond the normal range for your child, significant changes in appetite or sleep patterns, or dark-colored urine. These could point to less serious side effects but warrant monitoring.
Monitoring Your Child
Keep a close eye on your child’s overall behavior and well-being while on amoxicillin. Note the frequency and severity of any unusual symptoms. Accurate reporting helps your doctor make informed decisions about your child’s care.
