Doxycycline hyclate can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Drink plenty of water to help mitigate these effects. If these symptoms are severe or persistent, contact your doctor immediately.
Photosensitivity is a common side effect. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher when outdoors. Wear protective clothing, including hats and sunglasses, to minimize sun exposure.
Medication Interactions
Doxycycline can interact with certain medications, including antacids, calcium supplements, and some antibiotics. Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all medications, vitamins, and supplements you are currently taking to avoid potential drug interactions. This includes over-the-counter medications.
Other Potential Side Effects
Less common but still possible side effects include yeast infections, headache, dizziness, and esophageal irritation. If you experience any unusual symptoms, seek medical attention. Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication to prevent esophageal irritation.
Doxycycline may affect birth control pills. Consult your doctor about alternative birth control methods if you are taking oral contraceptives.
