Dosage and Administration Guidelines

Montelukast sodium 10 mg tablets are for oral administration only. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or break it.

Adults and Adolescents (15 years and older): The usual dose is one 10 mg tablet once daily, in the evening. Consistency is key; take it at roughly the same time each day.

Adjustments are not usually needed for elderly patients. Dose adjustments are not typically necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment. Consult a physician for patients with severe impairment.

Children (6 to 14 years): The usual dose is one 5 mg chewable tablet once daily in the evening. (Note: This information refers to the 5mg formulation, not the 10mg discussed in this section.)

Children under 6 years: This dosage form is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Different formulations are available for younger children. Always follow your doctor’s instructions and check the prescribing information for appropriate dosage for your child’s age and weight.

Follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage regimen precisely. Do not alter the dosage without consulting your physician. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Never double the dose. Store tablets at room temperature, in a dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
